Yesterday daisy drew a picture of me and stuck it in my passport wallet covering my photo. The Croatia boarder police however did not find this funny at all. Also not to easy to communicate so it lead to a few funny but awkward minutes.

We havent posted anything for a few days due to us being busy and well… Enjoying ourselves. After leaving Budapest we headed to Zagreb just for the afternoon and the next morning where we then went on a hike up the mountain. We seem to of gone a hike in each city so far. We then set off for our current location Ljubljana which is the capital of Slovenia. It’s really lovely here, like a small Venice I would expect. Lots of bridges over nice rivers and lots of art nouveau architecture.

Problems today transferring money didn’t lead to the best start. But as soon as we got money we hired some bikes and explored the city.

Budapest - we are supposed to be here 2/3 nights but have now extended it to 4 nights. It’s an amazing city and the first which has forced us to change our plans, its so vast, there’s just so much to do. Yesterday we went on 2 tours around the city with new friends Ning, Michael and Thomas, stopping off for strudel on the way. In the evening we got some hungarian food all I can describe it as is, meat, meat with a side portion of meat, It was really good. We later headed to a bar called Szimpla which is one of the best in Europe they say and it didn’t disappoint. It reminded me of a set from an early Tim burton film. Anyway we carry on enjoying after I have got over this hangover. Photos next….

Saturday. Vienna.

THE OPERA - Arabella.
We met a girl called Julie from new Jersey on the train and discussed going to the opera as joke. Our hostel told us that if we Line up, there is a chance we could get standing tickets for €4 each instead of the normal €150-€300 per seated ticket. So we met up with Julie and her boyfriend and lined up for an hour and got tickets. It was definitely an experience, the standing area was compact with very very angry Russian women. I embarrassed daisy by shouting at a Russian lady (she didn’t know what I was saying but got the jist of it) she was taking other peoples places which had been reserved. Anyhow it would of been great if it had lasted an hour and a half but we in there for 3 hours… A tad to long.

Still an amazing experience and great that we got to see it in the main Opera house where all the greats have performed.

Rollerblades

Just an observation, in Germany and Austria it seems the norm to ride your bike, scooter, rollerblades or Segway to work. Watching business men rushing to work in there suit with briefcase on a scooter seems hilarious to me and Daisy. Or maybe me and Daisy just need to embrace it and get some rollerblades on our return.

Prague- We both love this city, from the second we walked out of the train station we knew it was something special. We walked up to the castle yesterday which was again stunning, I’m pretty sure there is not one ugly house in the centre of Prague. Been spending time hanging out during the evening with a few Americans who we have met at the hostel which has been nice. Panda and Ben have joined us in drinking Prague dry, beer is cheaper than water which is strange.

so far 100% of the people we have shared a room with have had a snoring problem, including daisy. Last night to Daisy’s amusement the 60 year old guy from Cambridge kicked things off with a very erratic snore/growl. LIVID!

Today we will venture further around prague and tomorrow we leave for Vienna.

Berlin - we have spent the last two days venturing across the Capital, the city is steeped in history. Everyone seems to want to talk about the Wall and both the World Wars and what happened to the city. Yesterday an old man stopped us and asked us where we were from and then decided to walk with us for over half an hour telling us all about his life as a soviet in Berlin during the wall and also asking stories of things that happened down each road. I doubt this would happen in the UK. We visiting the German history museum, the wall and a flea market during our last few days. We stayed with family friends for the last week which has been amazing but now we have to get used to hostels. Slumming it!!

We have just boarded the train to our next destination, Prague or Praha to some. The train takes 4/5 hours which gives me time to write this and listen to the new ‘beach house’ album.

Today we travelled from our lovely hostel in hamburg to Berlin, where we are staying with Daisy’s friends Katherine and Bernard.

Last night we had a German guy stay in our room and his snoring was the worst I’ve ever heard, between himself and Daisy they sounded like a grand orchestra. I got NO SLEEP!!! In the morning he strutted around the room naked as he spoke to me about Van Nistelrooy, weird Europeans. Also he had his dog confiscated as he tried to sneek it into the hostel, he moaned all night about this.

Tomorrow we hit the Berlin weekend markets. Exciting. Now its time to catch up on sleep!!!

Hamburg has been pretty nice, the city changes into different areas every 5 minutes you walk. Shipping area one minute, trendy area the next and then there’s the Reeperbahn which is hard to explain…. Actually I can explain it in one word ‘Pervy.’

It started off raining in the morning but has been sunny for the best part. The Rathaus has so far been the best bit, an amazing building!!! Tonight we are going to try and visit the Reeperbahn again :0

After a crazy day yesterday rushing around Essex and Norfolk we finally finished packing at 1am this morning, and finally left for the airport at 9am. Bit surreal to think we won’t be back for nearly 7 weeks, but excited for everything we will see and do. Literally drooling, already over the idea of eating a pizza in Italy. Mmmmm

NEXT STOP HAMBURG!!!
